Career

Benjamin Schönecker (b. 1984 in Trier) is a German stage designer and scenographer. He has worked in German-language theatre and opera since the early 2000s. Even before his studies he was resident stage designer at Junges Schauspielhaus Zürich from 2006 to 2007.

From 2008 to 2011 he studied stage design at the Berlin University of the Arts. Alongside his studies he worked as a freelance stage designer, among others at Schauspielhaus Zürich, Ballhaus Ost, Theater an der Parkaue and Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin.

In 2011 he moved to Theaterhaus Jena, where he was a member of the artistic direction until 2018, helping to shape the programme and designing the sets for numerous productions of the house.

Since 2018 Benjamin Schönecker has worked as a freelance stage designer for drama, performance, dance and opera, collaborating regularly with directors such as Christopher Rüping, Moritz Schönecker, Philipp Rosendahl and Johanna Wehner.
